How is Crown Lengthening Done?

You will first be evaluated to determine your candidacy for crown lengthening. We may review your medical history and take x-rays to analyze your teeth, mouth and gums. A temporary crown will be placed before the actual procedure takes place. In doing so, we can analyze how much gum tissue and bone to remove.

The procedure begins by applying local anesthesia to the affected area. We want you to have a safe and comfortable procedure. Your periodontist will make slight incisions to trim away excess gum tissue. Once your teeth have become more exposed, dental crowns can be placed on the appropriate tooth. Then, the treated area will be rinsed with salt water and the gums stitched back together.

It is recommended to take prescribed medications to relieve pain and maintain a temporary soft diet.
